Step 3: The Evidence

The Island People

Introduction

Now that you and your fellow interns have examined all the clues it is time to start evaluating the evidence you have collected.

To perform this task you will need to look closely at the evidence gathered from each source and answer several questions.

  • What information have some sources have in common?

  • What information is totally unique to one or a few sources?

  • Does some of the information dispute other information?

  • Does some of the information appear unreliable?

  • Do you need to search for unanswered questions from other sources not provided in Step 2?

After you have completed evaluating the evidence it is time to begin the process of organizing it into a preliminary report.

The Preliminary Report

Your Preliminary Report is similar to the rough drafts for papers you wrote back in school (assuming followed your teacher's instructions).  Click Here for good information on how to write a rough draft.

Remember the information that you are to include in your report:

  • where they lived...

  • where they came from...

  • when they lived...

  • how they lived...

  • the structure of their society...

  • their main accomplishments...

  • their language...

  • their religion...

  • other cultures they interacted with...

  • why their civilization collapsed...

  • what they left behind as evidence...

  • what we have in common with them...

  • what we can learn from them.

Great job!  Now head back to Headquarters for the next Step!
